State of Origin

The first State of Origin match was played in Brisbane late 2001.

As expected it was a very close tussle all the way, but the locals were able to snatch a victory over the Blues in the final stages of the match.

Brandt (Bugsy) North was pretty handy on the net with some powerful shots getting home, proving he was just as capable there as he is as a Libero (a position he often plays in the National Team).

Bruce (the Bruiser) Thompson was also a standout for the victorious Queenslanders. His accurate sets and beautifully placed attacks gained many points towards the win.

Mark (the Flying Witherman) Whiteman for NSW was able to once again show his agility and speed on the court with plenty of fine saves.

NSW have vowed to 'clean-up' the Maroons next time when they meet south of the border on their turf.
